Comparing Clover to... by ~Wierdtails:iconWierdtails:

Although many of you may have seen the movie “Cloverfield,” it's possible that you do not realize that much of the behavior of the monster, also known as “Clover”, can be biologically explained. Although it seems incredible, what I am about to do is explain the creature's many reactions to our world by comparing it to the most unlikely creature it can be compared...

A Puppy dog.

Although it seems incredible, Clover can be well compared with a puppy due to the fact that they are, in fact, of the same age. Unbelievably enough, although we may think of a “puppy” as about 2 months old, Clover was, in fact, a newborn, making him younger than the puppy.

Now, the big question; WHAT THE BLOODY HELL DOES A PUPPY HAVE IN COMMON WITH THAT KAIJU OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT THEY'RE BOTH BABIES?!!

1- Anxiety

When a puppy gets separated from it's home, it will run everywhere, barking and bumping into things until it finds its way or is stopped. It can be either a nuisance or a pitiful performance for other people. However, the puppy will cause no real damage, as it has a very small body mass, and therefore, can not do anything to its surroundings.
But what if we multiply its mass by 100 million?
This is one of the key points in the story of “Cloverfield.” The monster is a baby suffering from separation anxiety, and his rampage and his roar are an attempt to find his family. However, because of his huge size, he will cause severe problems by destroying everything in its path. In addition, he has an extremely durable and fireproof hide. This causes a huge problem for any human or (Quite sadly) puppy that finds itself in his way.

2- Parasite Problems.

Sometimes, you can see a puppy scratching itself. It then pants, then goes back to scratching. Why, you might ask?
The answer is quite simple; PARASITES!!!
There are very tiny creatures on the puppy that live hide in its fur, obtaining safety, and by absorbing blood, food. This kind of relationship is known as “Parasitism,” and it goes like this: one species, the parasite, lives at the expense of the other, known as the host. The Parasites, known in our world as Ticks, Lice, and Fleas, live off the puppy, and this causes extreme discomfort to the puppy, who scratches itself in an attempt to free itself of the parasites, which might fall off. If they do, then they will either return to the puppy or try to find a new host.
Once again, Clover mimics the tiny puppy's life. When he emerges, he also has a problem with parasites. He is covered not with fleas, lice, or ticks, but rather, giant mutant spider-crabs. What they do to Clover is currently unknown, but presumably, it is quite discomforting. They are also quite different from the Puppy's parasites in that they will also go for animals that are relatively close to their own size. In other words, Humans.
When Clover manages to get rid of some of them, they immediately attempt to bond with humans. When they bite a human, he/she starts having symptoms similar to those of a fever. Soon after, their eyes, nose, and mouth (And I'm betting their private parts too) start bleeding, and soon after, their stomach starts expanding uncontrollably until the victim explodes. Despite the obvious difference, Clover's parasites definitely have quite a bit in common with the parasites of a puppy.

3- Catch the... round object.

If you have ever had a puppy, you'll see that they really like playing with balls. Throw one at them, and they'll chase it. If it gets away, they'll chase it. Sometimes, they'll even throw it on their own. And then chase it again. Extremely cute, wouldn't you say? But what is it about their little balls? What would they do with another circular object? Would they also play with it? Would they throw it and chase it?
My answer is quite simple; yes. They like their toys, and they love playing. However, more often than not, they end up breaking their toys by accident. However, they still might play with their toys even if they're broken.
Is it that big of a coincidence that Clover found a toy that he liked? Is it that hard to imagine the head of the statue of liberty as a little blue ball? Was Clover trying to play with the Statue of Liberty, but accidentally broke it? Is it not possible that throwing the head into the distance was just the playful instincts of a puppy with a toy? And would it be hard to think of what was left of the Statue of Liberty as... Clover's new Chew Toy?

4- Fetch!

As mentioned above, puppies love fetching things. Whether it is a stick, an ball, a doll, or a newspaper, puppies love catching things between their teeth as they fly through the air. Sometimes they miss, but they still go after the object just to bring it back to their master.
In one of the final scenes of “Cloverfield,” a helicopter is flying away. Clover gets hit by several missiles. Just when it seems it's all over... BOOM! Clover jumps out and bites at the helicopter. The helicopter flies out of control until it crashes into the ground...
Was Clover trying to fetch the giant flying sick? Was he feeling the puppy-ish instincts take over, telling him to “fetch”?? Maybe Clover also likes to catch things as they fly through the air. Maybe he feels a need to get to the stick... or just has the desire to play a bit until mommy rescues him.

5- Curious?

Sometimes, Puppies look at some insect or small creature on the floor, keep staring for a few moments, sniff it, and occasionally see that the insect is looking right back, then playfully try to grab it, or eat/attack it. They seem to be curious about where it came form, before saying “forget it. I'll just see if I can catch it.”
A very similar incident occurs during the last few minutes in “Cloverfield.” One of the characters, (I forgot his name... Hud? Hub?) realizes he left the camera behind, and goes to retrieve it. He then looks up, and comes face to face with the gigantic animal. For a few moments, they stare at each other, the man looking at the beast, the beast looking at the man. Then... Clover bites him in half.
Two creatures. Curiously looking at their prey before eating it. Enough said.

Although Clover is obviously not a puppy, his behavior can be related to that of the puppy quite easily. The big difference is the size, but other than that, they are extremely similar, which raises the question; If Clover was the size of a puppy, would he be a good pet?

Impressive how a puppy dog and the Cloverfield monster can be compared to each other.

I stayed up until midnight to write this, because I was compelled to biologically explain Clover's behavior.

How many of you would compare Clover to a puppy if not for this?

Clover is (c) to J. J. Abrams.

Edit: Changed the category because I thought that it didn't exactly fit well into the older category.

You have a good point there. Or well points. I beleive he could be a good pet at puppy size, considering to your conclusions. I never have seen Cloverfeild. Where does he come from? And the parasitic monsters? Are the parisites really in the movie? What happens in the end? Ant don't tell me to see it for myself, I probably won't see it until it come out on T.V. because I dont go to the movies often.
I saw that before I wrote that, dingbell! I DON'T WANT TO DO IT, NOR DO I HAVE TO DO IT....
But I will. I'l make Manny, Rikochet and Lindsay do it. >D

Where do you live? Because in America, It's already on DVD.
Apparently he came form the sea, and the parasites are shed as a "Post birthing ritual" (that's what the writers say)

I cannot belive nobody left a comment on this! :omfg: This was brilliantly well written and thought out when you saw the movie. I, myself, saw the movie and loved it  And what's very weird is that I actully  the monster and think it's cute. People think I'm crazy because of that, and that I want it as a pet :XD: Still, I like how this comparison turned out, and I would actually keep it if it were puppy size :aww:
