Cosmo Reborn


    It had been three months since the defeat of the Metarex. Eggman had not attacked for a long time. Everyone was happy.
Everyone, that is, except Tails.
Tails was still depressed over Cosmo. Even though Sonic tried to make him feel better and make him accept that Cosmo would not return, he still grieved for her. He wished that he had been able to tell her at least once how much he loved her.
On a warm evening, Tails was walking alone, with the small flower that had come from the seed that Sonic has given him. He had been walking for about half an hour when Sonic reached him.
“Hey buddy! How’s it going?”
“Fine,” mumbled Tails. Sonic noticed that Tails was carrying his flower.
“You still miss her?” When he got no response, he continued; “look Tails, I know that you two were really close to each other, but you got to accept that she won’t come back.”
Tails still was silent. Sonic realized that tears were slowly crawling down his face. He asked “Why don’t you want to accept it?”
  Finally, Tails answered: “Because… I… Love her.”
Sonic was quite surprised to hear this. “Tails… I… thought you were just friends… I didn’t understand that she was so important to you.
“I know,” said Tails, “and I never got to tell her!” his eyes were filled with tears. “Why did she have to die?”
“At least she died for a good cause” Sonic said. However, Tails didn’t feel any better.
“Why couldn’t it be me? He asked, and he shed even more tears, which slowly fell onto his flower. “Why couldn’t we have destroyed the Metarex before she… she…” it was too much for Tails. He fell to the ground, crying.
“Tails, I’m really sorry.”
“I know. I’d give anything to have her back.”
Suddenly, the flower began to glow.
“What the…”
The flower started growing at an extremely fast rate. Then, it turned into a tree.
“Are you sure that this is the plant that came from the seed I gave you?” asked Sonic.
“It is!” answered Tails.
The tree started giving off huge amounts of light. Then, a huge crack appeared straight down the middle. The crack soon went all the way down to the bottom.
Then, the tree split in half.
“OH MY GOD!!!” exclaimed Tails.
The two halves fell down, but something remained in the middle.
“What is that?” asked Sonic.
Tails cautiously approached the place where the tree had been. When he arrived, what he saw amazed him.
It was a baby. It seemed to be a newborn, yet somehow, it also seemed older. He could tell it was a girl, and he saw it had green hair and two flower buds on its head. However, what caught his attention was her face, and the way she looked at him as she opened her eyes. He could only think of one person who this baby could be.
“C… C… Cosmo?...” he said quietly, almost whispering.
“Is it her?” asked Sonic.
But Tails didn’t answer. He simply stared for a minute, and then fainted.
“Tails?!” cried Sonic. He then looked at Cosmo.
“This is something I never expected.” He thought to himself.

When Tails woke up, he was on his couch at home. Sonic was watching him.
“Are you ok, Tails?”
“Yeah”.  Then he remembered what had happened. “Where’s Cosmo?”
“I left her on your bed. I thought you’d want her to be somewhere comfortable” answered Sonic.
Tails was surprised, but pleased.
“I’ll go check on her” he said, and hurried to his room.
Cosmo was sleeping peacefully, and looking at her made Tails feel happy. He wondered what he would do, for he had never taken care of a baby, especially one that had been an 8-year old 3 months before.
Sonic entered the room. When Tails saw him, he asked “What should we do?”
“Well, I’ll go tell everyone what happened, and you could maybe go buy some stuff for her” answered Sonic.
“Okay” said Tails.
